Conjunctivitis and Pets

Both dogs and cats can get conjunctivitis. In humans, this is known as pink eye. Pets can get these infections in a number of ways. This type of infection causes the conjunctiva of the eye to get inflamed. The conjunctiva is a thin tissue that provides a protective layer to the eyes and eyelids. The inflammation of this tissue can be caused by fungal infections, bacteria, and viruses. It can also happen in pets because they have eye allergies or because there is a tumor in that area.

Conjunctivitis Symptoms

Conjunctivitis is a common eye infection, it can be a good idea to know what the symptoms are in case your pet should develop it. It can cause eyes to be watery, or just one eye might be watery. Your pet may also have an eye discharge. Your pet may rub his eyes constantly and may show indications of pain such as whining or panting. It can be important to take your pet to the veterinarian so that you can get the education needed to clear up the infection.

Dry Eye

Pets can get dry eye as well. This happened when the eyes are too dry. This can cause their eyes to get inflamed. It can cause cats a lot of pain, and it can eventually cause damage if the dry eye goes on for too long. If you notice changes in your pet's eyes, take them to our veterinarian to get a diagnosis. You may be able to save your pet a lot of pain.
